WISER Welcomes New Western Maryland Satellite Center

WISER Highlights Spring 2022

WISER happily welcomes UPMC Western Maryland Hospital Simulation Center as its newest satellite simulation center. The site is anticipated to fully launch simulation operations at the end of May with three dedicated “medical education theater” rooms, two control rooms, and a debriefing room.

The new partnership makes Western Maryland the 11th WISER satellite. This status formalizes the partnership between WISER and UPMC locations to enable those locations to best utilize WISER’s longstanding simulation expertise and resources while conducting training on site.

WISER staff traveled to Cumberland in March for an on-site kickoff visit to meet the Western Maryland staff, review the facility development, assist in equipment installations, discuss ongoing support needs, and continue planning the development of localized curriculum. As part of the partnership, WISER will conduct on-site support visits each quarter as well as providing ongoing training, troubleshooting, IT, and curriculum support services to the Western Maryland center. Further on-site training is planned for the end of April.

The center is expected to conduct a high volume of nursing-centered training, as well as mock code and “First Five Minute” simulations.
