We are excited to announce that Dr. Charles J. Lin, M.D., M.Sc., has been named Co-Director of the WISER Research and Scholarship Committee.

Dr. Lin is a board-certified anesthesiologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh Schools of Medicine and Nursing. He brings extensive experience in educational research, simulation-based training, and mentoring across disciplines.

A leader in simulation innovation, Dr. Lin developed the Scalpel-Bougie Front of Neck Access Workshop, a focused curriculum to train anesthesia providers in surgical airway management. His work in this area has been supported by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare Early Career Research Award and the UPMC Beckwith Frontline Innovation Grant, which also funds his MediSimScale project — a toolkit for scaling simulation workshops across UPMC.

As Co-Director of the WISER Research and Scholarship Committee, Dr. Lin will play a central role in supporting novice and experienced researchers alike. He will help lead the committee’s mission to:

      • Promote impactful educational research,
      • Share best practices in research design and implementation,
      • Provide scientific updates to faculty and staff,
      • Streamline research activities via WISER’s umbrella IRB, and
      • Strengthen compliance with institutional research requirements

Dr. Lin’s leadership and commitment to advancing simulation-based education and scholarly inquiry make him a valuable asset to WISER’s mission. Please join us in welcoming him to this new role.
