Greetings Friends of WISER!
It has been quite cold here in Pittsburgh, but we are generating warmth through our amazing work and commitment to improving healthcare delivery and education through the use of simulation.
As we embark on another exciting year in healthcare simulation, I am pleased to share some highlights from a productive start to 2025. In January, our team had the privilege of attending the International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) in Orlando, Florida. This annual gathering is the largest event of its kind, bringing together simulationists from around the world to exchange knowledge, showcase innovations, and advance the field of healthcare simulation education.
Our team at WISER was not just in attendance but played a significant role in shaping the conversation. I had the opportunity to co-direct a forum that focused on imagining and planning on the future of healthcare simulation. We were honored to present multiple sessions to an engaged international audience, contributing to the ongoing education and development of the global simulation community. These sessions provided an opportunity for our team to share best practices, highlight recent advancements in simulation-based education, and foster discussions that will help shape the future of our field. The experience of presenting to such a diverse and knowledgeable group reaffirmed our commitment to leadership in simulation education.
Beyond our presentations, WISER maintained a strong presence at IMSH with our dedicated exhibition booth. This space served as a hub for reconnecting with longtime colleagues and welcoming to the family, new friends of WISER. It was an excellent opportunity to provide education about our cutting-edge Simulation Information Management System (SIMS), which continues to support and streamline simulation operations at programs across the country. Additionally, we engaged with attendees about our fellowship programs, faculty development initiatives, and specialized training for simulation operations specialists. These conversations reinforced the importance of our work and demonstrated the impact that WISER has on advancing simulation education and training on a global scale.
While IMSH provided an outstanding platform for professional development and networking, we have also been celebrating a significant milestone here at home. Our newest WISER satellite center, WISER@Scaife, located in Scaife Hall, has been met with enthusiasm from the faculty of the medical school. Since its grand opening, WISER@Scaife has already hosted numerous simulation-based education programs, further enhancing the capabilities of the medical school in delivering state-of-the-art training experiences for its students. This expansion represents our ongoing commitment to providing accessible, high-quality simulation education across multiple disciplines.
Looking ahead, we are excited to continue growing and evolving WISER’s impact in the field of healthcare education. Our focus remains on developing innovative programs, expanding access to simulation-based training, and ensuring that our faculty, students, and partners have the resources they need to excel. As always, I want to extend my gratitude to our dedicated team and to all those who continue to support and advance our mission.
Stay tuned for more updates, and we look forward to another year of growth, collaboration, and innovation in healthcare simulation!
Until Next Time,
Happy Simulating!
-Paul
