The curriculum team is excited to highlight our recent trip to the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) while sharing updates about the new courses we’ve helped create over the winter!

In January, members of the WISER team had the amazing opportunity to travel to Orlando, Florida to participate in IMSH, one of the largest conferences in the field of healthcare simulation. At our booth, we connected with professionals around the world while showcasing the various tools we offer to support the needs of growing simulation centers, such as our Simulation Information Management System (SIMS), and the professional development resources available for simulationists, educators, and practicing providers, like our TechSim and iSIM courses as well as our extensive SSH-accredited Fellowship and Visiting Scholars opportunities. Our Director of Educational Development, Bianca Caruso, and our Educational Development Coordinator, Kaylee Peden, also led a hands-on workshop that emphasized the importance of creating engaging internal and external materials to garner engagement for your simulation center.

In addition to our presence at IMSH, the curriculum team has been hard at work developing new courses geared towards improving patient care outcomes. In collaboration with UPMC Children’s Hospital, we created a specialized course designed for ENT Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellows. Throughout this course, participants had the opportunity to improve their hands-on techniques in flexible nasolaryngoscopy using a fiberoptic scope and pediatric simulators. By utilizing simulation-based training, learners had the opportunity to deliberately practice and refine these necessary skills in a standardized environment, ensuring they can deliver safe, consistent care to every patient.

We also collaborated with Presbyterian Hospital to create a Neurologic Emergencies course. Designed for ICU nurses and Critical Care Medicine APPs, this course helps participants identify and manage acute neurologic deterioration while providing patients with the best care in a high-stakes environment.

As exemplified by our time at IMSH and the classes we continue to create for the health system, WISER’s curriculum team is dedicated to supporting and delivering exceptional simulation-based healthcare training.
