Recently, our new WISER at Scaife location supported multiple successful sessions for our 2nd Year Medical Student Invasive Monitoring Procedures course! Designed for students that are getting ready to start their clinical rotations, this course introduces crisis management techniques in acute care settings such as ventilation, delivering supplemental oxygen, and monitoring the patient.
While reflecting on the unique environment and support available at WISER at Scaife, Dr. Bill McIvor, instructor and Associate Director of WISER shared, “I think the coolest thing about [WISER at Scaife] is that we’ve been able to teach a large number of students with a relatively small number of faculty and really give them a lot of attention and feedback, and I think that’s all due to how WISER was designed. The IT stuff, the other kinds of assets that you provided for us, is really a treat.” Dr. McIvor also emphasized the broader impact simulation-based healthcare training has on both learners and patients, noting, ” Having dedicated my life to it, I know what it was like to be trained without simulation and practice on patients… Protecting patients, and putting learners into a position to succeed is absolutely the responsibility of an academic physician.”
We’re excited to continue the amazing work happening at WISER at Scaife to help equip tomorrow’s clinicians with the hands-on skills and confidence needed to excel when transitioning to real-life practice!
