Congratulations Rickey Ballard, a Simulation Operations Specialist at Radford University, who recently became a CHSOS after participating in TechSim! Developed by the experts at WISER and mapped to the SSH CHSOS exam blueprint, TechSim was designed to prepare simulationists and healthcare educators for the expectations and daily demands involved in managing the operational side of simulation centers. Available in both online and onsite formats, TechSim covers a variety of topics including scenario programming, simulation terminology, repair and maintenance, and much more!
“I thought the documentation was well written, very informative… The onsite was very professional. Everybody was more than willing to stop and talk with you and share their experiences and any information or leads,” shares Ballard. Another valuable aspect of TechSim is the availability and readiness of the instructors – like WISER’s Director of Operations Tom Dongilli, CHSOS-A, and Manager of Simulation Services Martin Mayer, CHSOS. Ballard emphasizes WISER’s open-door approach and willingness to connect with and mentor participants to make a real impact, saying, “I feel like I could reach out to them even today if I had any questions… [they’re] just a wealth of information and always willing to share.”
In addition to practical, hands-on training, TechSim exposes participants to a wide range of simulation modalities that can be applied across specialties, thanks to WISER’s partnership with the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC. Impressed by the variety and scope of this course, Ballard says, “You’re not going to find a more professional operation and if you’re looking for the specifics of simulation, [TechSim] hits it on the head. You cover all aspects… I didn’t even know there was pharmacy simulation, there’s dental simulation. You guys cover a lot.”
For those interested in becoming a CHSOS or learning more about the operational side of simulation, Ballard’s testimony illustrates how our TechSim course can provide all the foundational knowledge and skills needed to be successful in the field!
