Over the last year, WISER’s IT team has worked tirelessly with the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine to build a new satellite simulation center! Optimized for standardized patients and high-fidelity manikins, this state-of-the-art facility brings the latest and greatest simulator and audio-visual (AV) technology to the University of Pittsburgh medical students. Not only does this technology provide tremendous flexibility in how we operate these simulators, but these advancements also allow us to easily view different video content across dozens of different screens utilizing a simple touch panel!
While prioritizing this flexibility was a necessity to best meet the needs of our faculty and students, it required meticulous designing and complex planning. Separately segmented networks for computers and AV systems, elaborate programming for video and sound routing, as well as programming the video touch panels, are some of the issues our IT support staff worked hard to address. We are thankful for the expertise from our partners at Pitt to be able to configure and troubleshoot every step of the way. Opening this fall and located next to the new University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine OSCE Center, we are excited about the possibilities our new space will provide!
