WISER recently welcomed Jewish Healthcare Foundation Patient Safety Fellows to learn and experience how the use of simulation plays an important role in patient safety and improving healthcare quality. The participants were given an overview of WISER and simulation provided by our Director, Dr. Paul Phrampus. Following the presentation, they were provided an immersive, hands-on experience in four key areas. WISER faculty, including Senior Associate Director of WISER Dr. John O’Donnell, and our current fellows Dr. Suwattana Klanarong, Dr. Advait Kothare, and Dr. Hafizah Abdul-Salim conducted simulations on difficult airway management, operating room anesthesia induction, fiber-optic bronchoscopy, and ultrasound guided diagnosis and decision-making. As the participants moved throughout each interactive station, they were able to experience in real-time how our simulation activities improve clinical skills and abilities while emphasizing patient safety measures!
Scot Huber, Chief Communications Officer of the Jewish Healthcare Foundation, said, “We’re so appreciative of [WISER] going above and beyond to give our fellows insight into simulation… Everyone walked away with a new appreciation for the work that frontline healthcare workers perform daily and how simulation can enhance this work.” The Jewish Healthcare Foundation is a public charity seeking to advance healthcare innovation, advocacy, collaboration, and education to improve the health and safety of the general public.
