Our operations specialists are instrumental in ensuring all classes run smoothly by programming and running scenarios, helping instructors run realistic simulation-based training events, and performing maintenance and repairs on simulators. Over the past few months, our specialists have been working hard to support a variety of new classes and events that improve patient care outcomes.
Collaborating with subject matter experts to create and implement effective educational programs is part of what makes WISER an integral part of the UPMC Health System. This spring, we supported the new Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Course to teach essential and frequently used ultrasound applications and techniques to the providers at UPMC. By utilizing hands-on scanning and lectures to support knowledge and skill acquisition, providers learned best practices when performing ultrasounds. Additionally, our simulation specialists supported the new Obstretric Service Line Scrub Training Course. This course, designed for scrub technicians and nurses, utilizes simulation to teach participants their roles and responsibilities when a surgeon is performing a cesarean delivery.
The operations team is also happy to announce our involvement at the 2024 Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) Breast Imaging Symposium in Montreal, Canada! Working with UPMC physicians, 91 attendees participated in WISER’s one-of-a-kind Radiology Contrast Reaction Course, demonstrating how to manage life threatening situations that arise in a radiology context. Over the last two years, our specialists have travelled over 4,000 miles to bring this course to various UPMC facilities across Pennsylvania, New York, and Maryland!
We look forward to all the upcoming classes and events taking place over the summer! If you would like to learn more about how we incorporate simulation-based training in the courses we support, send us an email at wiserhelp@upmc.edu.
