When Thanat Tangpaisarn, MD arrived at WISER a year ago, he had six goals:
- Develop the essential skills to be a simulation educator.
- Learn how to establish a simulation center.
- Conduct research on simulation with the WISER team.
- Earn CHSE.
- Write a book about simulation.
- Develop a good relationship with a world class medical school.
Before Thanat left Pittsburgh to head home to Thailand, he happily shared with us that he accomplished all these goals! Thant has worked diligently to collaborate with leaders in simulation and medicine to help author two clinical research papers: Nasal Fiberoptic Intubation Training for Nurse Anesthesia Students Incorporating Deliberate Practice and Summative Assessment, and The Effects of Mechanical Versus Bag-valve Ventilation on Gas Exchange During Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in Emergency Department Patients.
Thanat went on to win the 2023 Research Forum Best Overall Abstract Award from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) for his work. In collaboration with Paul E. Phrampus, MD, and John M. O’Donnell, DrPH, CRNA, Thanat will be publishing a book titled Introduction to Healthcare Simulation: A Practical Guide to Effective Training in 2024.
Aside from all his workplace successes, Thanat also took America by storm, traveling to Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento, Las Vegas, and the Grand Canyon, just to name a few. We are so happy that he maximized his time in the US and at WISER! Though we already miss him terribly, we are so proud of him and all the knowledge he took back with him to Srinagarind Hospital at Khon Kaen University!
Our SSH accredited Fellowship Program is a great way enhance your skills, knowledge, and understanding regarding all aspects of running a simulation center. With a highly customizable curriculum that supports self-identified goals and objectives, Fellows work alongside our center’s leadership, observe and participate in the simulation-based programs we support, and engage in meaningful research.
