Through the collaboration between the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and China’s prestigious Central South University Xiangya School of Medicine, WISER was able to show visiting Xiangya Scholars a variety of procedures on our simulators and task trainers! From AED and BVM utilization to CPR and airway management techniques, these students were able to see how simulation is a vital teaching tool in healthcare education programs. Dr. Li-Ming Zhang, who facilitated the student’s simulation activities, said coming to WISER is important because, “they need some kind of basic skill for how to save a patient’s life…How to do high quality CPR, how to use an AED, these are basic skills they have to master.” Most students have already completed six years of medical school and are now completing two years of intensive biomedical research training in the outstanding facilities available at Pitt. We look forward to meeting next year’s scholars and are happy to assist Pitt’s School of Medicine in educating future healthcare providers on the importance of simulation!
