Greetings Friends of WISER!

We have had a productive quarter, and I hope that you have as well.  First off, we have released the newest version of our Patient Safety Report.  This report allows us to focus on those WISER activities which are aligned directly with improving patient’s safety on the front lines of care.  This report serves as an inspiration to us and allows us to share the importance of simulation and the continued work of WISER, our dedicated staff, and faculty toward keeping patient safe!  Hardcopies are being distributed around the campus, and online downloadable versions are available for our friends outside of Pittsburgh who are interested. These downloadable versions can be found here.

We had a very productive visit to the International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare in January. Even though the normally sunny San Diego weather seemed more like we were visiting during typhoon season, we had an amazing conference.

Through our exhibit booth, as well as the presentations conducted by faculty and staff, we were able to visit with old friends of WISER and make many new ones.  In the booth this year we were able to focus on spreading the word about our SIMS (Simulation Information Management System) version 3, our fellowship and visiting scholar programs, our faculty development training efforts, and the general things going on around WISER!

We are excited to announce the arrival of a new WISER Fellow who joins us all the way from Malaysia! Hafizah Salim, MD is an Emergency Physician and Medical Lecturer who joins us from University Putra Malaysia. Dr. Salim will focus on management and operations of large academic simulation centers and faculty development. We are excited to have her join our program.

Lastly, we are putting the final touches on the planning for the simulation portion of this year’s Safar Symposium that we co-host each year with the Safar Center for Resuscitation.  Set aside the morning of April 26th to either join us online, or here at WISER, for yet another round of stimulating discussion about simulation.  Registration details will be out soon.  We are looking forward to it!

Until next time, Happy Simulating!
