WISER is pleased to announce that our Director of Operations, Thomas ?Tom? Dongilli, AT, FSSH has earned his Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist-Advanced? (CHSOS-A?) credential from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare!
This newly created designation from SSH distinguishes those who have proven themselves to be advanced operations specialists in their practice in healthcare simulation and serve as mentors and examples to others in the field. Tom?s dedication to simulation and serving as a mentor is unparalleled and we celebrate and applaud this great honor bestowed upon him!
The comprehensive CHSOS-A? credential covers design, delivery, technological, and operational simulation principles, as well as leadership and demonstrated impact on the field to meet the needs of healthcare learners at all levels. Tom is one of only 25 individuals from around the world who have achieved this distinction.
Tom has worked in the healthcare simulation industry for over 27 years. As the Director of Operations at WISER, Tom supplies operational leadership to WISER?s main facility and its eight satellite centers. He is also an Associate Director and Mentor for WISER?s SSH accredited Fellowship program.
Tom designed the course, TechSim, a course designed for Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialists to help educate them on the key tasks associated with the daily operations and maintenance of a simulation center. This course is offered through WISER either as a virtual offering, or as an on-site experience. Some of his published works include chapters in A Manual of Simulation in Healthcare and Concepts, Trends, and Possibilities for Using Clinical Simulation in Nursing Education.
With and area of clinical interest focused on patient safety, Tom has created simulation-based programs for mock codes called ?In-patient Crisis Response System Evaluation? and authored a course called ?The First 5 Minutes, What to do Until the Code Team Arrives.?
Tom is an active member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (since its inception) and was the 2014 International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare meeting co-chair. In 2019, Tom was inducted as a Fellow in the Society for Simulation in Healthcare for his continued work and extensive contributions. In 2012, Tom was the lead author on the creation of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare?s Policy and Procedure manual. In 2019 and 2020, Tom lead the revision of the new SSH Policy and Procedure Manual.
Additionally, Tom has extensive experience in simulation center design, integration, and operations, having designed simulation centers both nationally and internationally.
***Tom recently participated in a Virtual Learning Lab for IMSH 2021 Professional Development in Simulation ? quite the appropriate topic for him!
