We bid farewell to our Visiting Scholar Dr. Jiehua “Angela” Feng after a yearlong Fellowship with WISER. Dr. Feng began her journey in September 2019 and concluded her Fellowship by finding her beacon and moving on to a new beginning in simulation. Dr. Feng sought to gain knowledge on debriefing and assessment, study how SIMS helped one of the world’s busiest simulation centers, learn about running Standardized Patient (SP) scenarios, and creating content for Anesthesia students and physicians.
Over the course of a year, Dr. Feng observed many Anesthesiology courses including our MOCA-Simulation Course for Part IV of Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology, which she found extremely beneficial in her learnings. Dr. Feng presented Learning Cures for Two Fiberscopes in Simulated Difficult Airway Scenario With Cumulative Sum Metods, Orhan-Sungur et al., during one of the several Visiting Scholars Journal Clubs she attended, and developed a project for 4th year Anesthesia medical students to learn clinical anesthesia skills such as trachea and bronchial intubation. She is very appreciative of the assistance and time that our Associate Directors, Dr. William McIvor and Dr. John O’Donnell, were able to provide to her.
During her attendance at the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH), Dr. Feng attended several workshops, learned more about the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH)’s accreditation process, the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE), and the Certificated Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS). Once she returns to her institution, Nanshan District People’s Hospital, she is hoping to start the application process to have her center accredited, as well as have her Simulation Operation Specialists become CHSOS certified. She understands it will be a lot of work, but she is ready to take on the challenge!
Through a series of assessments, education, text, scientific research and a system wide integration, Dr. Feng plans to bring back all her knowledge to continue to grow and improve her simulation center. Dr. Feng and her colleagues look forward to future collaboration with Dr. Phrampus and WISER!
