Dr. Kim is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Korea University Medical Center. During her time here, Dr. Kim spent time learning the fundamentals of medical simulation and how she can adapt them to her teachings at her simulation center in South Korea. Dr. Kim was involved in the International Journal Club as well as creating new and engaging simulation based courses to be conducted at the simulation center at Korea University Medical Center.

Lu Zhang, MD is an Anesthesia faculty member at The Third Xiangya Hospital at Central South University, China. During Dr. Zhang’s time at WISER, she studied elements of simulation-based curriculum design, anesthesia skill-based simulation courses and simulation center operations. Prior to coming to WISER, Dr. Zhang was a visiting fellow at Dartmouth Patient Safety Center. WISER would like to thanks Dr. Zhang for her time here.
Shi Chang, MD

Dr. Chang is a Professor of Surgery and the simulation center director from The Clinical Skills Training Center located within Xiangya Hospital, Central South University in China. During his time at WISER, Dr. Chang focused on how to run a simulation center based on the procedures that are used at WISER.
Nini Zhang

Ms. Nini Zhang came to WISER from The Clinical Skills Training Center, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University in China. Ms. Zhang serves as a faculty member at Central South University Hospital with a focus on information technology. During her time at WISER, Ms. Zhang focused on the IT infrastructure of a simulation center and how she may be able to adapt some of the process that are in place at WISER in her simulation center.
Yoichi Kase, MD

Dr. Kase is a Critical Care Physician and Anesthesiologist from Jikei University Hospital, located in Tokyo, Japan. While at WISER, Dr. Kase spent time learning about the WISER infrastructure as well as the day to day operations. Dr. Kase also spent time studying the Crisis Team Training that was being done at WISER and how he could create a course similar to it to be conducted at his facility. Dr. Kase also had a manuscript accepted to the Japanese journal, INTENSIVIST while he was at WISER. The focus of the manuscript is how WISER was formed and how there has been an increase in the number of Japanese physicians that have come to study simulation at WISER. Dr. Kase’s manuscript also focused on the day to day operations at WISER and how WISER consists of four major departments: operations, management, information technology, and curriculum development. The manuscript contained information about simulation center management, which was Dr. Kase’s focus during his time spent at WISER.
Takuro Sanuki, MD

Dr. Sanuki is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Osaka Dental School in Japan. During Dr. Sanuki’s time at WISER, he focused on how to transfer anesthesia based simulation into the dental community.
Shin Ho Lee, MD
Yonsei University Medical Center, Seoul, Korea

Dr. Lee is from the National Health Insurance Corporation Ilsan Hospital which is one of the branch hospital of Yonsei University Medical Center. Dr. Lee serves as an attending physician and teaches medical students as a clinical assistant professor of Yonsei University College of Medicine. Dr. Lee has published articles on Emergency Medicine, EMS and resuscitation. During his time at WISER, Dr. Lee focused on the infrastructure of WISER and how he could implement something similar at his simulation center. He also studied the day to day operations of a simulation center as well as the administrative oversight of WISER.
Ying Li, MD, PhD

Dr Ying Li, an Associate Professor of Nephrology from Second Xiangya Hospital came to WISER to study simulation-based education and research. Dr. Li joined WISER as part of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of Anesthesia, University of Pittsburgh and the Clinical Skills Training Center (CSTC) at the Central South University (CSU) in China. Dr. Li recently was promoted to Professor of Nephrology.
Danlin Huang, MD

Dr. Huang is an Attending Pediatrician from the Second Xiangya Hospital. She came to WISER to study simulation-based education and research. Dr. Huang joined WISER as part of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of Anesthesia, University of Pittsburgh and the Clinical Skills Training Center (CSTC) at the Central South University (CSU) in China.
Joon Kang, MD

Dr. Joon Kang is from the Department of Emergency Medicine at Jeju National University School of Medicine in Korea. While at WISER, Dr. Kang studied the infrastructure of WISER and how he could implement something similar at his simulation center. He also studied the day to day operations of a simulation center and what was involved in making it successful.
Hiroko Iwashita, MD

Dr. Hiroko Iwashita recently joined WISER staff as a visiting fellow from Saitama, Japan. Dr. Iwashita came to WISER from Dokkyo Medical University Koshigaya Hospital Shock and Trauma Center where she works in both Obstetrics and Emergency Medicine. Dokkyo Medical University Koshigaya Hospital has 723 beds and 19 clinical departments as well as the following facilities: Histopathology, Clinical Laboratory, Radiology, Library, Koshigaya Division of the Institute of Medical Science, Koshigaya Branch of the Laboratory Animal Research Center and the Shock Trauma Center. During her time here, Dr. Iwashita studied how to integrate simulation-based education into her teachings. Dr. Iwashita also was the lead for the International Journal Club while she was a fellow at WISER.
Satoshi Takeda, MD

Dr. Takeda is from The Jikei University School of Medicine,Tokyo, Japan where he is a lecturer in the Department of Emergency Medicine. During his time at WISER, Dr. Takeda “learned much about topnotch simulation educator skills from daily observations of various training courses at WISER.” He also learned about developing these skills from attending several iSIM (Improving Simulation Instructional Methods) courses. Dr. Takeda said, “Overall, my time here at WISER was incredibly fulfilling professionally and personally. What I learned and the connections I made will lend themselves to further medical simulation education in Japan.

Young Min Kim won the best simulation poster award for his poster “Simulation Experience and practicing Emergency Physicians’ Perceptions to a Simulation-Based Difficult Airway Training Program.” Research day judges selected a winning poster in each of the 5 different departments participating in the inaugural research day which included Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and WISER/Simulation.
Heejong Son-Kanwon, MD

Heejeong Son- Dr. Heejeong Son is an assistant professor from Korea that has been in the Department of Anesthesiology since 2004 and Medical Education since 2006. There she was in charge of clinical skill education for two years and is now a member of the steering committee at Clinical Performance Center in Kangwon National University School of Medicine.
Dr. Heejeong Son was interested in simulation-based education especially curricula development for medical students, faculty education as an instructor, environments for simulation-based education and airway management courses.
